LUCAS JOAO netted the lveller at Bristol City to ensure that Reading put pay to a run of seven consecutive Championship away defeats.

Despite picking up a point at Ashton Gate, the Royals remain in relegation trouble with an EFL points deduction set to hit the club this week.

Tommy Conway put Bristol ahead on the stroke of half-time, but Joao made his presence known from the bench when he got on the end of Andy Carroll’s flick on to head the ball into the net to make it 1-1.

Royals goalkeeper Joe Lumley made some important stops to keep him team in the contest before Joao levelled the game in the 72nd minute.

The point means that Reading remain in 18th position in the table on 46 points which means they are seven points above the relegation places.

However, a six point deduction would mean that Paul Ince’s men would fall into 21st place and would be just one point above 22nd Huddersfield Town who earned an impressive win over promotion chasing Middlesbrough at the weekend.

Reading’s next test comes on Friday night at home to Birmingham City before an Easter Monday trip to Preston North End in two more crucial matches to try and boost their survival hopes.
