By Cllr Rob White

In Reading we have local elections on Thursday, May 2. Hard-working Councillor Dave McElroy is standing for re-election to the council representing Redlands Ward.

Dave has been a Redlands councillor for the last three years and is passionate about people and planet. In 2022, 1,246 people elected hard-working Dave.

Cllr McElroy says, “It’s been an honour to represent the people of Redlands Ward. In the area we have worked hard on rubbish problems, tackling antisocial behaviour and improving housing. If re-elected in May, I will keep working for a fairer, greener town.”

37% of shared rented houses have serious hazard

Greens have been asking about extending landlord licensing for shared rented houses for the last eight years. The council has finally agreed to consult on this.

Cllr McElroy says, “This shows the benefit of having a strong Green opposition. It will really improve the quality of rented houses and tackle related problems.”

Council to employ enough people to empty bins

Greens have been campaigning on bin collection problems. Following this the council is to increase the number of bin workers by nearly 20%. This will mean bins are emptied on time.

Cllr McElroy says: “While I’m sure that local rat populations will be sad, we are glad that this Green pressure has paid off.”

Greens are the second largest party in Reading

As the main opposition party on Labour-run Reading Council Green councillors will continue to work constructively to get the best for Reading residents. There are now seven Green Party councillors and we are now two councillors ahead of the Conservatives.

We will keep working hard all year round on the issues that matter to residents.
