Times are tough at the moment both locally with the cost of living crisis and globally with war and climate change but I am hopeful for the year ahead.
There are elections on the horizon and with them a chance to create a fairer, greener country – and get more Green councillors and MPs elected.
The Green Party is the main opposition party on Reading Council
2023 was a big year for the Green Party. Thanks to another set of record-breaking local election results in May, countrywide we now have more councillors than ever before – representing our communities with hard work, integrity and commitment.
In Reading we have grown to seven Green Party councillors and are now the main opposition party on Reading Council – ahead of the Conservatives.
Green councillors working for a fairer, greener and cleaner town
We continue to be the party standing for fairness:
-
Calling for decent public services and standing up for the increasing number of families that have been evicted and people sleeping rough on our streets
-
Defending the River Thames and Kennet from Thames Water’s sewage
-
Campaigning for the council to get the basics right like bin collections that are on time.
More and more people are telling us how much they want to come together and help build a peaceful, fairer, greener and cleaner town, country and world.
2024 is going to be a momentous year for people and the planet. It’s time for action.
Get involved and make a difference
As the main opposition party on Labour-run Reading Council Green Party councillors will continue to work constructively to get the best for Reading residents.
There are now seven Green Party councillors and we are two councillors ahead of the Conservatives.
We will keep working hard all year round on the issues that matter to residents.
