A bar in Reading town centre known for its lively reggae and DJ nights is seeking a new licence to continue its music events.
Bar Iguana is located in an outwards facing, first floor unit of the Broad Street Mall in St Mary’s Butts.
The bar is accessed from a doorway at street level leading to the venue, which is known for hosting reggae, jungle and drum and bass DJs.
The manager of the venue has applied for a new entertainment licence.
In full, the operators want to sell alcohol, show films, host live and recorded music and dance performances between 10am to 2.30am Sunday to Thursday, and 10am to 3am on Friday and Saturday nights.
Bill Donne of Silver Fox Licensing Consultants has clarified that there will be no change to the existing hours Bar Iguana has on its current licence.
The licence is currently unified with the St Mary’s Premier, as the ground floor was previously occupied by Cafe Iguana, which closed well over a decade ago.
The new application has been submitted to separate the two floors of the premises in licensing terms.
A statutory consultation into the Bar Iguana application is currently live.
