A FORMER pub near Reading has sold for £413,000 in a bidding war.
The freehold Red Lion at Church Road, Mortimer West End, was among 170 lots across southern England in the latest auction by Clive Emson Auctioneers, regional land and property auctioneers.
Mike Marchant, a senior auction appraiser for the auction firm, said: “There was keen interest, with 23 bids made, the last of which came in at £413,000 and was £63,000 above guide price.
“We are not privy to any plans the new owner may or may not have.”
He explained: “The Red Lion, which was offered for sale with vacant possession, sits within a plot that extends to three quarters of an acre, with parking for up to 40 cars and an extensive garden.
“The main accommodation is substantial, with around 70 internal covers, commercial kitchen, main bar and residential accommodation above.”
The next online auction by Clive Emson Auctioneers concludes on 18 September, with bidding live from 48 hours beforehand.
Entries close on August 26, with the catalogue online from August 29.
