Former Reading FC striker Dom Ballard has joined League One Cambridge United on a loan deal until the end of the season.
Ballard spent a short time on loan with the Royals last campaign before he suffered a serious knee injury in Reading’s away win at Wycombe Wanderers which saw him miss the remainder of the campaign.
Reading had been keen to bring Ballard back to the club in the summer transfer window on a loan deal, but were unable to get clearance from the EFL due to their ongoing financial problems under controversial owner Dai Yongge.
The 19-year-old joined Blackpool on loan in the summer and played 18 League One matches and scored just once.
He was recalled by parent club Southampton and has now been sent to Cambridge for the rest of the campaign.
Cambridge are currently in a fight to stay in the division and are in 23d place on 21 points from 27 matches.
