Former Reading FC defender and first-team coach John O’Shea has been confirmed as the new Republic of Ireland manager on an interim basis.
O’Shea, who earned 118 international caps for the Republic of Ireland was an assistant manager under former manager Stephen Kenny.
He will now take charge of the side for their friendlies against Belgium and Switzerland in March.
Best known for his time as a player with Manchester United, O’Shea spent more than a decade with the Red Devils and made almost 400 appearances, winning multiple trophies.
After a seven-year stint with Sunderland, O’Shea finished his playing career with Reading where he played nine Championship games in the 2018/19 season.
He then started his coaching career with the Royals as he joined the backroom staff under Mark Bowen.
He stayed on as a coach under Veljko Paunovic when he was appointed as first-team manager in August 2020.
O’Shea left Reading in July 2021 and has since been with Stoke City and had a short spell under Wayne Rooney’s staff at Birmingham City.
