Former Reading FC defender Alex Pearce has signed for League Two side AFC Wimbledon.

The former Royals academy product will sign with the Dons when his contract at Millwall expires at the end of the month.

Pearce had been linked with a return to the Royals due to the expiry of his contract which left him available on a free transfer, however he will play for Wimbledon from next season.

Pearce took to the field in Royals colours last month in the Reading FC legends match to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the club where he represented Brian McDermott’s 2011/12 Championship winning team.

The Republic of Ireland international, who has seven caps and two goals for his country, joined Reading’s youth system in 2001.

He made his first-team debut for Reading in 2005 and went on to make 212 league appearances for the club, scoring 14 times.

Pearce played in every single league match and notched five goals in the promotion winning campaign in 2011/12 and went on to play 19 times in the Premier League the following season.

He left Reading in 2015 after his contract expired and joined Derby County and went on to play for Bristol City on loan before playing two seasons at Millwall.
