An American chain burger restaurant in Reading has been closed and sealed off to clear the way for a fashion store.
The Five Guys at the upper level of The Oracle shopping centre closed two weeks ago.
The closure followed the relocation of Five Guys to the former All Bar One unit at The Oracle Riverside on Monday, October 13.
The space previously occupied by the burger chain has been hoarded off to make way for an enlarged Zara fashion shop.
This detail has been revealed in a Health and Safety Executive (HSE) notice fixed to the unit.
Work will involve stripping out the kitchen area and infilling the unit to create more space for Zara to relocate.
The notice states: “Demolition works include the full strip out and removal of Five Guys, including fixed and loose furniture, kitchen and serving area, flooring, ceiling and associated electrical equipment etc.
“Further strip out works include the removal of the existing party wall between the units, as well as partial removal of the mall feature ceiling and flooring adjacent to the unit.”
Zara currently occupies two floors of The Oracle, with women’s clothing on the lower level and men’s clothing being sold at the upper level.
The Spanish fashion retailer will be relocating to a new unit previously occupied by House of Fraser, which closed in October 2023.
This unit remains sealed off, with artist Epod’s work celebrating the euphoria of music at Reading Festival still in place.
