THE ROYAL Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service is calling all budding firefighters as it seeks new applicants for its internship scheme.
RBFRS is looking for motivated young people from under-represented backgrounds to take part in the Summer Internship Scheme.
The scheme helps attendees gain real-world experience and skills through a number of workshops aimed at furthering their development and exploring their options in the fire service.
It will give them an insight into how RBFRS conducts a range of operations, including time spent in the Calcot headquarters and learning how administrative, planning, and training operations are carried out
The programme runs for five weeks from July 4 to August 9, with attendees earning an hourly wage of £9.99.
There are flexible working arrangements available to help attendees receive flexible support.
Qualifying applicants must live in Berkshire, be at least 18 years old, and come from an ethnic background which is under-represented in the Royal Berkshire Fire and Rescue Service.
A maximum of five applicants will be chosen.
Nikki Richards, Deputy Chief Executive and Director of Corporate Services at RBFRS, said: “This Scheme is an exciting opportunity. It offers a paid internship and will give these young people a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, develop new skills and enhance their future education and career prospects in a supportive work environment. It also offers the Service the chance to gain value insight and feedback from those participating.
“As a Service, we are committed to engaging with young people in our communities and expanding career pathways into the fire and rescue service. Beyond the Internship Scheme, we also offer other opportunities in the Service for young people, including our Fire Cadets programme, as well as our partnership with the Leonard Cheshire’s Change 100 Programme.”
