A SHORT film featuring an interview with a man who survived two concentration camps before finding safety in England is to be screened in Reading.
Heilig sees Kindertransportee Gerhard Heilig share his own story – a young Austrian Jewish boy sent to the UK during the Second World War.
And his father, Bruno, who was incarcerated twice by the Nazis, speaks of what happened to him.
The free screening will be introduced by Dr Ellen Pilsworth, a lecturer in German at the University of Reading. Afterwards there will be question and answer session with filmmaker Steven Hatton. This will look at how Bruno and Gerhard’s stories represent different aspects of Britain’s response to the Nazis’ persecution of Austrian Jews.
The event takes place at Reading Biscuit Factory in the Broad St. Mall on Monday, September 11, from 5pm. It is free to attend but tickets must be booked in advance.
