A road resurfacing project hailed as Reading's "biggest ever" has resumed as the council sets its sights on sections of main roads across the borough.

A ROAD resurfacing project hailed as Reading’s “biggest ever” has resumed as the council sets its sights on sections of main roads across the borough.

Fifteen sections of major routed through Reading are set to see improvements as work gets back underway in the next phase of resurfacing.

Works will include improvements to parts of Norcot Road, Eldon Square, Shaw Road, Forbury Road, Rose Kiln Lane, Whitley Wood Lane, Whitley Wood Road, Cockney Hill, Caversham Park Road, and the B3270.

Works will take place on one road at a time throughout March and up until mid-April.

The sections of road being improved will see closures to ensure work can be carried out quickly and safely, and a temporary ‘no waiting at any time traffic order’ will be in place to prevent parking on the road while the works are being undertaken.

Residents and businesses directly affected will see advance notices put out alerting them to the work, along with on-street closure notices and letters being posted to residents.

Residents will need to follow the signed diversions but will be provided with access on an individual basis when it is safe to do so throughout the process.

Bus diversions will be put in place where applicable.

It is the continuation of a two-year programme which will see 64 sections of major roads around Reading improved.

The £4m major roads programme forms part of a wider £8m Reading Borough Council investment that also covers residential roads, including over 100 such roads surfaced between February and the end of April.

Karen Rowland, Lead Councillor for Environmental Services and Community Safety, said:

“We take our residents’ wishes very seriously, and we know that a good standard of roads is one of your top priorities – which makes it one of our top priorities too.

“Having followed a £9m road resurfacing investment with this latest £8m investment, which is making big strides in both main and residential road improvements, it is clear to see that we’re taking residents’ requests seriously on this and putting everything in to building a better road network for Reading.

“With over 100 residential roads being improved this spring along with these key major routes too, residents will see the difference we’re making very soon.”

Norcot Road (School Road to Sona Gardens) will be closed from 8am on Monday, March 3, for 2 days.

Eldon Square will be closed from 8am on Wednesday, March 5, for 2 days.

Eldon Road will be closed from 8am on Wednesday, March 5, for 2 days.

Shaw Road will be closed from 8am on Friday, March 7, for 1 day.

Forbury Road (Vastern Road to Kenavon Drive) will be closed from 7 PM on Monday, March 10, for 2 nights.

Forbury Road (Kenavon Drive to Kings Road Southbound) will be closed from 7pm-1am on Wednesday, March 12, for 1 night.

Rose Kiln Lane (Boulton Road to River Bridge) will be closed from 7pm-1am on Thursday, March 13, for 2 nights.

Norcot Road (Broomfield Road to Oxford Road) will be closed from 8am-8pm on Monday, March 17, for 5 days.

Whitley Wood Lane (Whitley Wood Roundabout to Borough Boundary) will be closed from 8am-8pm on Monday, March 24, for 4 days.

B3270 (Junction Whitley Wood Lane for 250m West) will be closed from 7pm-1am on Thursday, March 27, for 2 nights.

Whitley Wood Road (Whitley Wood Lane to Woodside Way) will be closed from 8am-8pm on Monday, March 31, for 3 days.

Whitley Wood Road (Whitley Wood Lane to Swallowfield Drive) will be closed from 8am-8pm on Thursday, April 3, for 2 days.

Cockney Hill (Full Extent) will be closed from 8am-8pm on Monday, April 7, for 10 days.

Caversham Park Road (Littlestead Close to Bramber Mews) will be closed from 8am-8pm on Monday, April 14, for 2 days.

Caversham Park Road (Kiln Road to Birchwood Close) will be closed from 8am-8pm on Wednesday, April 16, for 2 days.
