Sky Sports’ EFL expert Don Goodman has predicted a play-off push for Reading FC in League One this season.
Despite all their off field troubles under owner Dai Yongge, the Royals have shown outstanding ability and team spirit on the pitch.
Starting their season strongly under highly rated coach Ruben Selles, the Royals have managed to continue their top-six form after Selles departed for Hull City and was replaced by former player Noel Hunt.
Speaking to https://www.plejmo.com/, Goodman said: “Reading are in a scrap to stay in that top six.
“There are some teams who are beginning to hit some form, so their point away at Charlton, who are trying to hunt them down, was a good one.
“I don’t see any reason as to why Reading can’t stay in the top six.
“Noel Hunt has stepped in seamlessly and the fact that it’s a club he knows and loves will have helped him and helped the fans get behind him.”
Despite giving them a good shot at finishing in the play-off places, Goodman did reiterate how vital it is for the Royals to keep hold of their key players during the January transfer window.
Several key players such as Sam Smith, Lewis Wing, Tyler Bindon and Charlie Savage have been linked with moves away due to the club’s need to raise money to sort their financial issues.
He continued: “He’s (Noel Hunt) had a brilliant start in charge. The group is good enough to keep them in the top six but the key for Reading is not to let anyone leave during the window and for them to keep their best players fit.”
