ON SUNDAY, June 25, East Reading Festival returned to Palmer Park for a day of fun in the sun.

The annual community festival featured theatre from Progress, poetry from Reading Stanza and Two Rivers Press, stand-up from Stand and Deliver, carnival costumes from TEMPO MAS, and performances aplenty from Readiophonics, The Rock Academy, and Newtown School Choir.

Organiser Matt Foster said: “It’s always difficult to tell until you get here, but the response has been really good.

“With our split funfair and such a lot of great food, including Tutu’s, which is always a pleasure to have with us.”

He explained: “The idea is that you don’t use a car, although some do of course, so it’s nice to have people wandering through,

“We want people to be able to come to an event on their doorstep, and this is for the people of East Reading.”

While the weather was particularly warm during the festival, Mr Foster chose some of his highlights of the days’ events.

“It could be a little bit cooler, but it’s always such a pleasure to see the kids’ choirs, especially as the parents are there watching many perform for the first time.

“We have the carnival costumes for the first time, which is something a bit different, and it’s so nice to wander around and seeing so many people getting involved.”

He also gave thanks to Reading Borough Council: “for their support and sponsorship, as well as the Earley Charity, who have allowed us to make it the size it is and to do what we do with the festival.”
