DON’T go down to the woods today – or the Thames Path – you’ll be sure for a big surprise.
With many footpaths flooded, Reading Borough Council is urging people to seek alternative routes for their Sunday walk … or morning commute.
Christchurch Meadows, the Thames Path, the Kennetside tow path, the Oracle Riverside and Fobney Lock are all affected by rising water levels.
Thames Valley Park has become an extension to the River Thames, and there is localised flooding in surrounding villages.

And that means that usual walking routes are impassable.
A spokesperson for Reading Borough Council said: “Avoid flooded footpath and Christchurch Meadows today, and the morning commute tomorrow.”
As we revealed earlier today, the River Thames has risen to its highest level since modern records began, beating the previous high set in 2003.
