Reading FC fans have been left bemused with the team’s performance after they were beaten by Stevenage and dropped out of the play-off places.
With both teams pushing for a place in the top six, the Royals started the day in 6th place but dropped down to 8th after conceding late in a one goal game.
Reading are now in 8th place, one point behind Plymouth and two points behind Stevenage, who have a game in hand.
Fans were left confused and frustrated by the approach from Leam Richardson’s side, who managed just one shot on target in the entire game.
Seemingly happy enough to come away with a draw, Reading’s plan was foiled late on when Dan Kemp scored the winner in the 85th minute.
Several fans reacted angrily on social media following the final whistle.
One fan said: “Disgraceful performance, which seems to happen a lot under Richardson. We have too many ‘good’ players to be playing this bad most games.”
Another added: “Absolutely HORRENDOUS! There’s only so long you can ride your luck playing god awful negative football. Leam lost us this game and the results went against us. Good luck selling season tickets for next season Rob and Todd, utter snooze fest.”
Another supporter said: “How I feel about our coaching set up is identical to how I felt about Southgate and co. Can’t stand them, blindly arrogant, and plays sh*te football considering the players we have. But the results aren’t bad enough to sack him. We can’t keep him next season.”
One more said: Exactly what that performance deserved. Performances have been shocking for months. Players don’t look interested or motivated. That comes from the manager and back room staff being unable to coach a talented group of players. No desire, no rhythm. Poor all round.”
Reading are back in action next Saturday when they host relegation battling Wigan Athletic at the Select Car Leasing Stadium.
