WE ALL know the Ding is one of the best places in the country for so many reasons. Now it can add the fun factor for youngsters to the list.

A new survey has named the Ding as a top destination for children.

It ranked highly for its mixture of child-friendly restaurants, mixture of parks and nature trails, its swimming pools, and being close to Legoland.

The survey also took into account the activities parents can take their children to, and play gyms.

In all, Reading had a fun factor of 6.55, placing it joint fifth with Nottingham.

Top, with a fun factor of 7.49, was Cardiff, followed by Brighton at 6.9, and Newcastle at 6.8.

With all those places being cities, Reading can claim it is the most child-friendly town in the country.

Lagging behind the Ding were Bolton (6.3), Aberdeen (6.06), Derby (5.81) and Plymouth (5.76).

Outdoortoys.com, which compiled the research says that Reading offers child-friendly activities, a wealth of parks, cinemas and restaurants, and is just 22.1 miles away from the nearest theme park.

This, it says, means Reading is the perfect destination for a fun-filled family day out.

As for table-topping Cardiff, outdoortoys.com says it provides a variety of options for a fun day out with your kids, including the second-highest number of cinemas (two per 100,000 people) and the third-most nature and park spots amongst all UK cities (12.27 per 100,000 people).

For the thrill-seekers, Barry Island Pleasure Park, located just 9.8 miles from Cardiff, features the UK’s biggest thrill ride, a giant 32-seater space machine.

Attractions at Brighton includes the pier, with a crazy golf course and fairground fun. It also boasts the third-highest number of child-friendly restaurants (270.25 per 100,000 people), ensuring plenty of dining options for your family.

And the least fun place? London, with a score of 0.74, thanks to the limited number of cinemas, play gyms and child-friendly activities.
