Hundreds of purple poppies which were crafted to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-day have been stolen in Arborfield.
The Barkham Hookers had helped to create the display which had more than 200 hand crocheted purple poppies and saddle cloths which were placed on three life sized horses.
However, just one day after the display was finished, the group has had their hard work ruined.
Barkham Hookers leader Gaynor White said: “Two of the saddle cloths with over 200 poppies on each have been taken overnight, I’m so upset.
“I was heartbroken to be told this morning that two of the saddle cloths made by the Barkham Hookers for the horse sculptures at Arborfield have been taken.
“Each one had over 200 hand crocheted purple poppies as well as a helmet on top.
“We have been working on this project for months to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of D-Day and have also decorated 20 post boxes in the area with D-Day themed toppers.
“The horses looked absolutely beautiful yesterday and had already attracted hundreds of positive comments as well as offers of donations for the British Legion.
“We have raised over £55,000 for the British over the last 10 years and hoped this would help raise more.”
