READING Borough Council is holding a free event to help landlords keep up to date with changes to legislation.
The council is teaming up with the National Residential Landlords’ Association (NRLA) and the Rent Guarantee Scheme to provide key updates on legislation which could affect their properties.
The event includes speeches, including from NRLA CEO Ben Beadle, and interactive workshops, as well as the opportunity to network.
Workshops will cover fire safety and energy efficiency as well as signposting resources for both landlords and their tenants for carbon cutting.
There will also be a tenancy “toolkit” session looking at how rent increases and notices should be drafted and served.
It will be opened by the council’s lead member for housing, Ellie Emberson.
She said: “As a Council we’re focused on ensuring we provide the best possible housing opportunities for residents.
“Beyond our own programme of new affordable homes across the borough, this also includes ensuring good quality and well-regulated opportunities in the private rental sector and a range of support to both landlords and tenants.”
She explained: “Our Landlord Information Evening will help ensure those with properties to rent in Reading can do so confidently and securely and with added peace of mind for their tenants, so it is good for everybody.
“We look forward to meeting as many landlords as possible next week to talk to them about how we can help them”
The landlord information evening takes place at the Civic Offices, Bridge Street, from 6pm on Thursday, November 23.
Places can be booked by emailing: landlord.advice@reading.gov.uk or calling: 0118 937 2233.
