A closed food court is set to be taken over by a new restaurant in Reading town centre.

The place called ‘The Food Court’ was situated in Oxford Road, opposite the Broad Street Mall.

It featured three different brands: Burger Base, Tuk Tuk Pizza and the Oodles Asian fusion cuisine.

The Food Court opened in 2021, occupying the former Ponden Home store, which closed during the coronavirus pandemic.

However, earlier this year, The Food Court operating business Maz Foods RG1 was liquidated.

Now, a business called Muskaan Enterprises Ltd is set to take the place over.

Muskaan Enterprises has applied to sell alcohol from the premises from 7am to 11pm Sunday to Thursday, and midnight.

The application for alcohol sales has been submitted to Reading Borough Council’s licensing department.

You can comment on the application by emailing licensing@reading.gov.uk.

The deadline for representations is Monday, November 17.

None of the three brands that occupied The Food Court sold alcohol, but it is understood Maz Foods RG1 had a late-night refreshment licence to sell food and soft drinks until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Therefore, alcohol sales would constitute a new activity from the premises.

The Ponden Home in Reading closed in 2020 after its owning company The Edinburgh Woolen Mill and Ponden Home went into administration.

Both brands were saved from full closure in a deal in January 2021, but the store in Reading was not part of that agreement.
