A NEW fish tank is to be installed in the children’s wards of Royal Berkshire Hospital, thanks to a donation from football teams.
The Royal Berks Charity was awarded £500 by Give Back FC, and it will be used on the shared facility between Lion and Dolphin wards, helping give children something to do.
Kci Streich, play lead on the children’s wards, said: “As a child, having to stay in hospital for extended periods of time can be both daunting, and boring.
“As a team we go to great lengths to ensure a stay on the unit is as enjoyable as possible.
“Our old fish tank has been in need of replacement for some time and now thanks to the support from Give Back FC and Reading FC Community Trust we will soon be the proud owners of a new one.
“We really can’t thank them enough.”
Royal Berks Charity was introduced to Give Back FC by James Lacey, a Patient Pathway Coordinator in the radiology department at the hospital. He had heard about the need for a replacement fish tank and, through his involvement with Reading Sunday League, reached out to his football connections.
Give Back FC and Reading FC Community Trust offered to help.
Last week, Give Back FC founders Moses and Jordan, and Reading FC Community representative Richard, joined James to celebrate the new installation.
James said: “We fundraise as we have all been brought up in areas that didn’t have a lot going for us and seeing people struggle in life is heartbreaking.
“The funds we raise sometimes come from local organisations, but most of the time from our own pockets.
“We have all had our demons in the past so we now give back in life.”
