READING are still on the hunt to break their long standing run away from home without a win when they face Charlton Athletic on Saturday.

It has now been 11 months since Reading’s last away victory in the league which came in November 2022 at Hull City.

Reading sit in 22nd position in the table after 11 matches on six points having had four points deducted.

Meanwhile, Saturday’s opponents are in 14th on 15 points with four wins, three draws and three losses.

The Addicks finished 10th in last season’s League One on 62 points as their play-off push fell short.

Charlton have already opted for a change of manager early in the campaign after previous boss Dean Holden was sacked at the end of August following a run of four defeats in their opening five matches.

He was replaced by Micahel Appleton who has managed to kickstart Charlton’s season and push them up the table with an upturn in recent results.

Charlton are unbeaten in their last six league matches which has seen them pick up 12 points, including wins over Fleetwood, Wycombe Wanderers and Exeter City.

Having lost their opening two home matches at the Valley, against Bristol Rovers and Port Vale, Charlton have not tasted defeat on home soil since.

Charlton forward Alfie May has been in fine form and currently has seven goals from 10 matches which puts him joint fourth in the league’s top scorers list.

Ruben Selles will be hoping to have Mamadi Camara back in contention, while Sam Smith is expected to be in with a chance of making the squad.

Smith has been out with an injury since returning to the club in the summer which means that he has missed all competitive action thus far.

Reading’s last trip to the Valley saw them come away with a 1-0 success in July 2020 as George Puscas’ third minute penalty proved to be the only goal of the game.

Predicted Reading line-up: Button, Yiadom, Abbey, Bindon, Guinness-Walker, Savage, Wing, Elliott, Knibbs, Ballard, Ehibhatiomhan
