Reading FC are facing a fight to try and keep hold of defender Amadou Mbengue who has been linked with a whole host of Championship clubs this summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old defender is available on a free transfer this summer. The Royals have offered him a new deal, but he is currently assessing his options having had several Championship teams register their interest in signing him,
The centre-back had another outstanding season for Reading, alongside Tyler Bindon, as the Royals finished just outside the play-off places.
Mbengue joined Reading in 2022 as a relatively unknown prospect from French side Metz.
He found his feet in the Championship in his first season in the club but has managed to develop into a much more consistent player during Reading’s two seasons in League One.
He has played a total of 109 games in all competitions for the Royals.
However, despite Reading’s eagerness to keep hold of him, they face competition from teams in the division above.
Clubs such as Watford, Queens Park Rangers, Coventry City and Preston North End have all expressed an interest in signing him on a free transfer.
Reading have offered out several new contracts to their players since Rob Couhig completed his takeover of the club.
So far, Lewis Wing has signed a new deal, while goalkeeper Joel Pereira is expected to sign a contract extension imminently.
