SEVENTY years ago this year, history was made when a young singer walked through the doors of a recording studio.
The teenager was one Elvis Presley, the venue was the Memphis Recording Service of the Sun Record Company, and he paid them to record two songs.
The rest is history.
To mark the recording of the double-sided, featuring My Happiness and That’s When Your Heartaches Begin, a new show is coming to The Hexagon.
Sun Records The Concert: Where Rock’n’Roll Was Born looks at the place where a host of musical legends cut their discs, including Jerry Lee Lewis, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, Rufus Thomas and, of course, the King.
The distinctive sound we know and love today was crafted from gospel, blues, hillbilly, country, boogie and western swing by musical visionary Sam Phillips.
Featuring musical instruments of the era, starring a multi-talented cast of singers and a supporting cast of amazing musicians, the sound of Sun is brought to life live on stage in the official concert show that takes you back to the birthplace of rock’n’roll.
The show is at The hexagon on Friday, June 30. Tickets cost £28.50, or £26.50.
