A social club up in Caversham could host events, parties, music and films up until 1am if plans go ahead.
The Milestone Centre accessed from Northbrook Road opened as a meeting place for the residents of Caversham Park Village.
The centre is run by the Caversham Park Village Association, which caters for the needs of the neighbourhood.
Its website states: “The association was founded on December1, 1965 by some of the ‘early settlers’ within the first 111 homes on Caversham Park Village. There are now over 1,500 homes.
“Its aim was to establish a community organisation and build a community centre.
“Fifty years later, that organisation is still going strong and the Milestone Centre became a reality, being opened a little over a decade later and was added to by a squash centre and the youth and recreation building.”
Now, the separate social club which uses the centre has applied to host events there until 1am.
Firstly, the club has applied to supply alcohol Monday to Thursday from 8am to 11.30pm, Friday to Saturday from 8am to 00.30am, and Sunday 8am to 11.30pm.
Additionally, it has applied for a range of activities to take place from 8am to midnight Monday to Thursday, 8am to 1am Friday to Saturday, and 8am to midnight on Sundays.
These activities include late night refreshments, which covers the sale of food, soft and hot drinks, the provision of live and recorded music, indoor sporting events and films.
A statutory consultation has begun into the application submitted to Reading Borough Council’s licensing department.
