A CHARITY that supports disabled children and their families is picking up sticks and moving its operations to new premises.
Building For The Future (BFTF) has a new ‘Our House’ on Thames Valley Park, Reading, that will allow the organisation to expand its free services to more of the area’s disabled community.
The charity says that having a much larger, safe and purpose-built facility will increase confidence and the mental wellbeing of disabled children and young people.
“We’re in the final stages of signing a new 15 year lease on a 3,500sqft facility (with a wrap-around garden) that will be fully inclusive and more accessible,” said a BFTF representative.
The new premises will be more expensive to operate, and the group will need to install a kitchen, bathroom, training areas, garden fencing, raised beds, an outdoor play area, sensory and soft play areas, specialist mobility equipment, and assistive tech products.
“Our House is a place where children can play, learn and develop life skills,” continued the representative.
“It’s also a place where families and carers can access free support and services.
“Many consider us as a ‘lifeline’.
“We offer a welcoming, safe haven for over 500 of the area’s children and young people with disabilities but we’re running out of room.
“Plus, there are more families and groups needing our help.”
To support the charity in its new home people can donate via the charity’s website, or buy a brick for its legacy wall.
