A bid for a takeaway in Reading to keep on serving food until 4am has been branded ‘crazy’ by a neighbour.
Rancheese is a new takeaway in Caversham Road serving a range of pizzas, burgers, Masala fish, wraps and desserts to customers.
The takeaway is currently allowed to operate from 11am to 11pm.
The business operators applied to keep on selling food until 4am in an application to Reading Borough Council, which has been described as ‘crazy’ by a woman living over the River Thames in Caversham.
The woman wrote: “I see that this business has applied to sell food until 4am.
“It’s crazy, and I can see a 24-hour opening being asked for next.
“So I object to this application. It will cause more traffic, especially on Sunday to Thursday and put pressure onto nearby businesses to do the same.
“There are far too many takeaways in Reading, the last thing we need is them open until 4am.”
The woman wrote this in an objection to a statutory consultation into the licensing application.
Because she objected, a meeting will be held by the council’s licensing applications sub-committee to make a decision.
Robert Smalley, a licensing officer, stated that the application has been adjusted to close at 4am on Fridays and Saturdays and 2am from Sundays to Thursdays.
The meeting will take place on Thursday, March 26.
Rancheese has taken over the premises previously occupied by Smash N Grill.
