A BOROUGH music organisation has created a new youth choir to include young people with complex support needs.
Berkshire Music Trust’s (BMT) new Soundabout Associate Choir will start online in November.
Jamie Read, partnership and inclusion manager at Berkshire Music Trust, said: “I am super-excited to be co-leading our new inclusive music-making community in association with Soundabout.
“Whether young people are non-verbal, preverbal or, like me, love nothing more than a good chat and a sing-song, there is a place for them in our music making community.
“Everyone has the chance to join in, and because BMT’s Soundabout Associate Choir is run online, you don’t have to worry about transport or schedules and the whole family can join the session.”
Soundabout Choirs are musical communities without barriers for people of all ages and all abilities, with a focus on giving a voice to learning disabled people with complex support needs.
Berkshire Music Trust offers musical education opportunities to children, young people and adults across Berkshire, regardless of ability, background or circumstance.
They work closely with schools across the county to allow all children access to music and the opportunity to play an instrument.
Through local music centres, they offer people of all ages the chance to sing, play instruments and enhance their life-skills through music.
Their choirs, orchestras and ensembles perform at venues across the county and beyond, helping people to develop team-working and communications skills as well as building confidence.
The new Soundabout Associate Choir will begin online on Tuesday, November 5, from 4.30pm until 5.30pm, with sessions continuing thereafter every other week.
Sessions are free to join with the option to make a small donation to support the trust’s work.
