LAST WEEK, the Lord Lieutenant for the Royal County of Berkshire, Andrew Try, joined the Mary Hare School in welcoming attendees to a special festive event last week.
More than 200 people took part in a Christmas carol concert to celebrate kindness and love shown this year.
The event saw pupils from across the school, all profoundly deaf and some with additional needs showcasing their talents. Invited guests included those from the school community, as well as charity and volunteering organisations across Berkshire.
Guests in attendance were treated to a mixture of performances including a range of traditional carols – some with student solos, some with audience participation and a dance performance all accompanied by music provided by the students too.
The ‘Together at Christmas’ Community Carol Service, supported by The Royal Foundation, is part of an annual initiative spearheaded by The Princess of Wales to recognise and thank the many people around the country who act with love in their communities.
This service was one of 15 taking place across the country in the coming days, leading up to Christmas.
Andrew Try, HM Lord-Lieutenant of Berkshire said: ‘Her Royal Highness The Princess of Wales
“Community Carol Service at the Mary Hare School for deaf children and young people was a perfect reminder of everything we hope for at Christmas time.
“As HRH mentions in her Christmas message, the power of reaching out to one another with generosity, understanding and hope.
“The music of Christmas reaches out across barriers and boundaries and touches our souls.”
