A HOMELESS man who went on a shoplifting spree in Tilehurst on a ‘near daily basis’ has been jailed.
Ryan Mikosz pleaded guilty to 29 counts of shoplifting in the village.
Reading Magistrates Court heard that between January 19 and February 23, the 29-year-old stole food and household goods from stores.
Thames Valley Police arrested and charged him on Wednesday, February 28, and he appeared before the magistrates the following day.
They sentenced him to 34 weeks behind bars.
Investigating officer, PC Vince Moore, of the neighbourhood policing team for Reading, said: “As part of Operation Purchase, The Reading Neighbourhood policing team have worked tirelessly to secure the conviction of one of our most prolific shoplifters.
“Over a four week period, Mikosz has targeted various stores in Tilehurst on a near daily basis. During this time, he stole more than £1,500 worth of goods.
“The Reading Neighbourhood policing team will continue to work in partnership with our local retailers, to reduce retail crime and bring offenders to justice.
“I hope this conviction will send a message to others who feel it’s acceptable to take what is not theirs to reconsider their actions, you will be apprehended, charge you and put you before the courts to face justice.”
