AUTISM Berkshire has launched a brand new service to provide support for adults with autism.
The service will offer support and advice to those with Autism over the age of 18 who do not qualify for specialist NHS-funded services, regardless of formal diagnosis.
It will be able to provide a support helpline, one-to-one support, workshops, problem-solving and advice sessions for adults or carers, and activity groups.
It will be funded by the Berkshire, Oxfordshire, and Buckinghamshire NHS Integrated Care System (ICS) and the Frimley NHS ICS.
Autism Berkshire’s chief executive officer, Jane Stanford-Beale, said: “We have been providing support to families of autistic children and young people on behalf of the NHS for a number of years.
“We will build on that experience to develop the Berkshire Adult Autism Support.”
She explained: “We want to ensure that autistic adults and their parents/carers throughout the county have access to high-quality support, including advice, workshops and activities.
“Alongside our long-standing social groups for adults, based in Reading and Maidenhead, and our specialised benefits advice service.”
