A LOWER Earley home celebrated Indian culture from the comfort of the home’s lounge.
Residents, relatives and staff all got involved with the spirit of the day at Austen House Care Home, when the team decided to celebrate India with an afternoon of traditional food, music, and fashion.
Katherine Mahoney, General Manager at Austen House care home, said: “It was a huge amount of fun and such a wonderful opportunity for residents to learn about and experience another culture.
“It has sparked so many conversations and memories, and brought lots of joy to the home.”
Residents were able to try on colourful scarves, listen to Bollywood music, and even to have henna tattoos applied.
Activities coordinators Kripa and Sunita shared their Indian heritage with everyone, bringing the celebration to life with personal stories and demonstrations of customs and traditions.
One resident said: “I absolutely loved the music and the bright colours – it really felt like we had travelled abroad for the afternoon.”
