Armed police officers attend scene in Tilehurst following reports of person carrying knife

Thames Valley Police responded with armed officers on scene at Corwen Road, Tilehurst after they received unconfirmed reports of a suspicious person in possession of bladed items this afternoon.

Police attended the scene in TIlehurst with armed officers at around 12:40pm this afternoon (Friday).

A statement from TVP said: “We received an unconfirmed report of a suspicious person in possession of bladed items at around 12.40pm this afternoon (7/2).

“Armed officers swiftly attended Corwen Road, Tilehurst, and searches and investigations have been carried out.

“The report remains as unconfirmed at this time.

“We continue to investigate the report and are working to establish the circumstances of this incident.

“We appreciate the concern this incident may cause but do not believe there to be a wider threat to the community at this time and members of the public will see extra patrols in the area .

“We would appeal to anyone who with information or who was in the area this afternoon and may have footage to contact the force. “

“You can leave any information via our website or call 101, quoting investigation number 887 of today’s date (7/2). Reassurance patrols will be put in place”.
