POLICE are appealing for witnesses to come forward – some of whom may have been at Reading Festival – after a motorcyclist they were chasing collided with a kerb in Portman Road.
The incident took place around 8.15pm on Saturday, August 27.
Officers were in pursuit of a blue Yamaha motorcycle along Richfield Avenue, Cow Lane and Portman Road in Reading before it collided with the central reservation kerb on Portman Road.
A 33-year-old Reading man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police, driving while over the prescribed drug drive limit and driving while over the prescribed drink drive limit.
He was de-arrested and taken to Royal Berkshire Hospital for serious hand and chest injuries, where he remains.
Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses and dash-cam footage to help its investigation.
Investigating officer Sergeant Edward Crofts, of the Joint Operations Roads Policing Unit, based at Three Mile Cross police station, said: “We are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward.
“In particular, I’d like to speak to a witness who stopped and spoke to officers at the scene who had seen the collision happen. I need to locate this person’s details as a possible witness.
“It was busy at the time due to the nearby Reading Festival so I believe there would be other witnesses to this incident.”
He added: “I’d also ask anyone with a dash-cam who was in the area just prior to or at the time of the collision to check any footage in case it has captured something that could help our investigation.
