A REGULAR drag night in Reading has seen a brand new host take over the residency.

Anita Oui hosted the first of her casted drag events at The Rising Sun Arts Centre with a millenial theme celebrating the turn of the year 2000.

After having taken over the residency while previous host Sheer Obsession is on hiatus, she took on the mantle as host for the first time.

She began the show with an impressive, live vocal performance of Fabulous from the soundtrack of High School Musical.

After warming up the crowd, she invited Dorian Gay onstage, who performed a lipsync to Hollywood Undead’s Comin’ in Hot, followed by Big Jay.

Duac gave a creative lipsync as the Microsoft Paperclip as it tried to escape the harsh rules of life were imposed upon it and break free to live its own life.

Anita Oui returned to lipsync Katy Perry’s Ur So Gay before two teams of audience members battled it out in guessing the next lyrics to songs from the turn of the millenium.

Grace Anatomy then performed along to a medley of songs from the era plagued by comedic interruptions on her flip-phone from film and TV characters.

She followed up with a skit about a lonely undercover spy attempting to avoid the millenium bug along to Beyonce’s Save the Hero.

After another performance by Anita, two members of the audience were pitched against each other in a lipsync battle along to Britney Spears.

Duac returned with a Scissor Sisters number before Big Jay performed along to The Black Eyed Peas’ Meet Me Halfway.

Duac’s final number saw her smearing a cheesecake over herself during her lipsync to Bass Portal’s Masterchef Remix and an outfit reveal to Greg Wallace pasties.

Big Jay closed the show with a high-energy performance of Skater Boi by Avril Lavigne, and their fellow performers joined them on stage for a dance party to finish.

After the show, Anita Oui thanked previous host Sheer Obsessions: “They are the reason behind tonight.”

Speaking about whether she was nervous for her first hosting gig, she said: “I started to get ready, and I don’t remember anything after that.

“It feels a bit full circle, as I debuted here at the Rising Sun at a YSK-themed event, so I thought I’d bring it back around, and it’s been really exciting.

“It’s a side of me; I don’t think I could do it out of drag.”

Teasing her upcoming shows, Anita said: “We’ve got wigs on wigs for our April Fools’ show.”

Anita Oui will continue her residency at The Rising Sun Arts Centre with Anita Oui’s Suspenders, which returns in April.
