READING FC manager Paul Ince has confirmed that he expects Amadou Mbengue’s contract situation to be resolved imminently.
The 21-year-old joined Reading on a short term deal in the summer, but the club are close to reaching an agreement to extend his contract.
“Yes (we are making progress),” said Ince.
“Hopefully that will be done tomorrow morning. That should be done, fingers crossed.
“He went down last year with Metz, he’s only a young kid who came here to a different country not speaking much English, that’s always tough for any player.
“Initially we saw he can play right wing-back, right side centre half and central midfield. He’s a bit like Tom Mac in that respect.
“He’s a versatile player that would looked at and thought could be used. When he came in and played we saw he had something there.
“He’s got pace, tenacity and desire to be the best. As a person, the players love him. He’s always happy and smiling.”
Ince was quick not only to praise Mbenuge’s development as a player during his short time with the club, but has been impressed with his attitude off the pitch.
He continued: “It’s like he feels privileged to be here, to be a footballer. We want to give him as much chance as we can for him to develop, he’s only 20.
“We want to get it done and improve him and in years to come play at a higher level.
“There are a few other clubs that are interested in him, but he’s got Mama (Loum) here, Naby (Sarr) and all the French contingent so he’s enjoying it. That’s the culture we are creating here.”
