Alok Sharma, MP for Reading West and president of the COP26 climate change committee, has announced that he won’t continue as a cabinet minister.
He will remain as the president of the COP26 committee until the presidency is handed over to Egypt for COP27, which takes place from Sunday, November 6, in Kinshasa.
Sharma did not give his explicit support to any of the candidates in the Conservative leadership race which followed Boris Johnson’s resignation.
While he continued in his position following Truss’s short-lived leadership, he stated that he would support Boris Johnson in a bid to return to Downing Street following her resignation last Thursday, October 20.
Rishi Sunak continues to build his cabinet among a number of resignations by secretaries of state, including Jacob Rees-Mogg, who has resigned from his position as Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.
