READING Blue Coat students and staff celebrated a gleaming set of A Level results on the morning of Thursday, August 18.
Of their Year 13 cohort, 51 students achieved either A* or A grades, ten of whom received all A* grades.
This means 84% of students will be heading to their university of choice.
Headmaster Pete Thomas said: “This cohort of students has not been able to sit public exams until this point in their education.
“I am extremely proud of their resilience and perseverance in very challenging circumstances and delighted to see so many students achieve their well-deserved outcomes.
“I hope that all students’ achievements, in both the academic and co-curricular realms at Reading Blue Coat, have helped broaden horizons and enable access to the diverse opportunities they so deserve. They have so much potential to do great things.”
Deputy head of school Felicity Alborough achieved two A*s and an A. She was one of 19 students to achieve an A* in economics.
In doing so, she secured her place at Nottingham University to read politics, philosophy and economics.
Guy Barwell will study biology at University of Oxford after obtaining three A*s. He is a gifted trumpeter and has performed the Last Post on Remembrance Sunday.
Zoe Fearn needed three As to secure her place at University College London to read medicine. She ended up getting three A*s.
She said: “I was so worried, because the offer was such high grades and I wasn’t sure if I could get them, so today is really amazing!”
Talented athlete Sam Hodgson has competed nationally in athletics and was thrilled to receive two A*s and an A, which will see him take up his place at Loughborough University to study finance and accounting.
Deputy head Mr Rob Tidbury, said, “I am very proud of the hard work and dedication of our students and staff throughout the challenging past two years which have allowed them to rightly achieve the results they deserve.”
