A VENDOR in Reading has made it to the shortlist for a national award recognising culinary excellence for one of the UK’s favourite takeaways.
La’De Kitchen, Pangbourne, is among the contenders for this year’s British Kebab Awards, set to be held at the end of the month.
This year’s event is the 12th, sponsored by Just Eat, and sees a panel of judges selecting the vendor who has shown exceptional talent in food.
It attracts attendees to celebrate winners in the Best Kebab House, Best Newcomer, and Outstanding Contribution categories as well as Best value, Customer Satisfaction, and Fine Dining categories.
It also celebrates Greek restaurants, Best Delivery, Supplier and Manufacturers, Chef of the Year, and Kebab Van of the Year.
The kebab industry is worth more than £2.2m in the UK and a survey by Foodhub in 2022 showed that one in 10 Brits admitted to eating a kebab every day.
Of those surveyed, 15% said that they ate kebabs more than once a week.
The Kebab Awards 2024 is set to take place at the Park Plaza Westminster Hotel from 5pm on Tuesday, February 27.
