Reading FC under 21s continued their quest for Premier League 2 glory as they defeated Nottingham Forest at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Saturday.

In front of a crowd of more than 1,100 Royals fans, Noel Hunt’s young side put on a fine display which saw them move through to the semi-finals of the competition having now beaten both Middlesbrough and Nottingham Forest.

Jayden Wareham opened the scoring from the penalty spot after eight minutes when he kept his cool from 12 yards to send the goalkeeper the wrong way.

Reading’s dominance continued and they were rewareded with a second goal when John Clarke headed in from Matty Carson’s corner.

Forest grabbed a goal back berore half-time with their first promising attack of the game to make reduce the deficit.

However, it was mostly one way traffic again in the second-half and the Royals put themsevles back in control when Clarke netted his second of the game, heading in from close range.

Reading will play either West Ham or Sunderland in the semi-finals this weekend with the two set to face each other later today (Monday).

Hunt’s team are in action in the Berks & Bucks Cup final on Wednesday night against Marlow before they prepare for their PL2 last four showdown.
