In a spring verge along my way
I saw clumps of snowdrops out today
The promising sign that spring is coming
Simply dressed, but in crowds they are stunning
But what is that lying in between
The patches of white on a background of green
Its lots of bits of red and blue
And other multi-coloured hue
It’s litter! It’s rubbish!
Just carelessly discarded
The urban kingfisher is a rare sight
“There it is,” I cry out with delight
As I see it by the brook
But I fear I have mistook
The crisp bag’s brash and gaudy blue
For that vibrant turquoise hue
Of the kingfisher
It’s litter! It’s rubbish!
Just carelessly discarded
By canal and river, in fields and woods
I go out running, it makes me feel good
But one thing will get my blood pressure rising
Is litter! Is rubbish!
But what I find surprising
It’s not all carelessly discarded
It’s deliberately fly-tipped!
I’m sure it can’t be right
If you can find yourself out here OK
Why can’t you find your way
To the Waste and Recycling Site?
