LANE closures are in place on a busy main road out of Reading for the next three days.

A stretch of Kings Road by Cemetery Junction is being resurfaced, with work starting this morning – Tuesday, August 29.

The work sees the existing surface removed, a process called planing. Any fixes to ironwork underneath the road will be undertaken. There will also be cleaning works to gullies at the side of the road.

Then, it will be resurfaced with new line markings in place.

The works means bus services that usually go along the Kings Road towards Reading town centre are diverted along London Road. This affects the Reading Buses routes of Purple 17, Lion 4/X4, and Orange routes 13/14.

There are also road closures in Newtown, meaning residents cannot get on to the Kings Road via Norwood Road. Instead, they can exit via Amity Road, Cholmeley Road or Liverpool Road.

During the three-day programme, it is not possible to park on the road – although this is a red route.

A letter sent to residents and businesses assured them access to homes and businesses will continue as usual where possible and if it is safe to do so.
