YAKOU MEITE continued his long road to recovery from injury with 45 minutes of action for Reading Under 23’s on Monday evening.
The Ivorian has been sorely missed by the Royals this season after he suffered a torn ACL in June which has kept him on the sidelines.
Meite managed his first minutes on the pitch since that injury by completing 45 minutes in Reading under 23’s 4-1 defeat at Aston Villa.
Despite the loss, Meite set up Jahmari Clarke’s goal for the Royals and was withdrawn at half-time with the score at 2-1.
Speaking on his recovery back in December, Meite told Reading.Today: “I need to come back fit and as soon as I can.
“I’ve been working hard and it’s starting to pay.
“I don’t want to rush it, but I want to be in the best shape I can be when I come back.
“I have a date in mind, I have done since the start of my injury.
“It’s the first time I’ve had a long injury like this. It’s been tough, but it could have been worse.
“I want to be as fit as I can straight away from the first game back, that’s why I’m working so hard now and I know Lucas (Joao) is the same.
“Everyday I’m counting the days down. Sometimes the time goes fast, sometimes it goes slow but now I am back on the pitch and it’s getting better and I’ve been able to work on different things.”
