Reading FC got the better of non-league Woking in their latest pre-season test as they stepped up preparations ahead of the new season.

A total of 1,109 Reading fans made the trip to the Kingfield Stadium to get a view of their team.

The Royals’ long ongoing takeover saga is still yet to be resolved which means that no new additions have been made to Ruben Selles’ squad as of yet.

As a result, plenty of young players featured with a view of breaking into the first-team fold ahead of the 2024/25 campaign.

After a goalless first-half, Reading opened the scoring just before the hour when Jayden Wareham dispatched the ball high into the roof of the net after being played in by Mamadi Camara.

The Royals doubled their lead when they were awarded a penalty after Kelvin Ehibhatiomhan was brought down in the area.

Ehibhatiomhan squeezed the ball past the keeper which sealed the 2-0 win.

Reading have three more pre-season fixtures scheduled. They host QPR at the Select Car Leasing Stadium on Saturday, are away to Cardiff City on Wednesday, July 31 and then are at home to Hull City on Saturday, August 3.

The League One campaign then starts away to promotion favourites Birmingham City on Saturday, August 10.

Reading: Button, Rushesha, Ryan, Stickland, Dean, Craig, Senga, Elliott, Tuma, Camara, Smith

Subs: Pereira, Osho, Garcia, Mbengue, Kanu, Sackey, Wing, Savage, Azeez, Ehibhatiomhan, Wareham, Akande

Goals: Wareham 59′, Ehibhatiomhan 75′ (pen)
