READING FC boss Ruben Selles has defended Royals’ goalkeeper David Button following Tuesday night’s defeat to Northampton Town.
Shipping three goals on the night, two before half-time, the Royals succombed to their sixth league defeat of the season.
Of the defeat, Selles said: “A tough night, a tough night away. Another first part of the game where we were not ready.
“The clearances were short. When we needed to keep the ball down, we kicked it long. It looks like we did things the wrong way around. Then it’s difficult in this league to come back in these moments.
“The goalkeeper made two fantastic saves and straight after we conceded the second goal. In the second half we were there, we scored our goal. We had the chances to equalise but when you’re chasing the game in the last minutes, you can make those mistakes.
“We need to demand more and be clinical in our finishing.”
It was a tough night for goalkeeper David Button, who arguably should have done better with all three of the goal Reading conceded on the night.
“Today was probably not his night but we still trust him,” the Spaniard explained.
“He has been excellent for us on many occasions and has kept us in games. We can all have a bad day, we can accept that but the trust in him is still 100%.”
