The Royals avoided another defeat on the road after Harvey Knibbs’ 82nd minute strike ensured they went home with a point.
Selles’ side are in 9th spot in the table after 14 matches.
“I’m very proud of the performance,” said Selles, speaking to BBC Radio Berkshire after the match.
“We needed to control the ball, we showed it and the second half was more powerful.
“We created and played the game, sometimes the score is not a reflection of the game. “Today we only got one point and I think we performed to get three.”
Selles made the decision to bring on Jeriel Dorsett at half-time as he made his return from injury with an impressive display to help change the game in Reading’s favour.
“We knew they would target the left hand side. Jeriel was not ready to play 90 minutes.
“They were winning second balls in that area so we knew Jeriel could arrive and win some duels in that area.”
Selles reiterated that the priority for the club is focusing on the league after they learned they would have just 48 hours to recover for their match at home to Cambridge following their FA Cup tie with non-league Harborough next month.
He said: “I made my point clear that the priority is League One. We will play Cambridge and then have four days until the next (league) game.
“But that doesn’t mean that I don’t want to win every match.
“We’re realistic with no support and resources, everyone is doing an extraordinary job so we don’t want to talk about positions or play-offs.”
