Reading FC manager Ruben Selles gave a speech to his players as they returned to pre-season training last week.
Despite the ownership situation not yet being resolved, the players and coaches still have to turn their attention to matters on the field as they gear up for the 2024/25 campaign.
Selles’ side managed to find some strong form in the second-half of last season which helped them survive the drop in League One despite off the field issues causing them points deductions.
The speech, which was recorded by the club’s social media, captured Selles saying: “We have no time to lose, we are in the same situation as usual.
“We need to get the very best out of you, the players and technical staff.
“This is what we are, and this is who we are.
“For you who are new here, every pass is important, every touch is important, everything is important.
“On Monday, we will have a meeting where we go through how we create the environment and the rules.”
The Royals will kick off their league campaign with an away trip to promotion favourites Birmingham City on Saturday, August 10.
Meanwhile, Reading have been drawn to play League Two side Colchester United away from home in the first-round of the Carabao Cup.
They will face Cheltenham Town, Newport County and West Ham United U21s in the EFL Trophy group stages.
Selles continued: “It will be similar to last season and a couple of things we need to work on as a team.
“Meanwhile, just work hard, take care of yourself, listen to Josh and now it’s a pre-season period where we need to learn a lot, work a lot and be able to be ready to go on the first day of the season. That’s how are and that’s how we work.”
