Gabriel Berry-Khan, Green

Green councillors and candidates are working for a fairer, greener, more affordable town.

Greens did so well at the council elections last year that we overtook the Conservatives becoming the second largest party on Reading’s Labour-run council (32 Labour councillors, 7 Green, 6 Conservative and 3 Lib Dem). Labour have a very large majority of councillors but it is very close between Greens and Conservatives for second place.

Vote Green at the council elections on Thursday 4 May for hard work year-round but also to keep the Green Party ahead of the Conservatives as the main opposition party on Reading Council.

Get involved with the campaign. We will only win with your help.

Casey Byrne, Conservative

Born and bred in Tilehurst, Casey is standing to be a truly local champion, for local people. He knows people are finding it hard and they need a council that is there for them.

He wants to build a council that delivers value for money and listens to its people. Under Labour, for decades, Reading has seen higher council taxes and declining services, it’s time for a new era.

He says: “Reading Labour has taken us for granted and the Conservatives are ready to create the change Reading deserves. That means low council tax, ending the traffic chaos, fixing the roads and dealing with waste.”

Len Middleton, Labour and Co-operative

I’m proud to stand as the Labour Party Candidate in Tilehurst.

Local services are very important. I was talking to a voter; conversations are always about the bin collection service, but then they asked “Was the Council’s support for people shielding from Covid still running? I live on my own and I’m about to start chemotherapy”.

It was, and I was able to give them the phone number. Reading’s Labour Council has a great record in public service and, should I be elected, I will champion council services for the people of Tilehurst to make the lives of all of us better.

I have lived in Reading for over thirty years. My partner and I are both resident in Reading and we are on good terms with His Majesty’s Revenue and Customs.

Anne Thompson, Lib Dem

Anne Thompson has become a familiar face campaigning in Tilehurst and across Reading in recent years, especially following her election as a Lib Dem Councillor for Tilehurst in 2022.  She lived in Reading for many years working at the BBC Monitoring Centre in Caversham prior to moving abroad with her work; she returned to Reading six years ago.  A translator by profession, between English and various Eastern European languages, she works with multiple community organisations and children’s charities, helping vulnerable people both in the UK and abroad to get the help and support they need.  If re-elected, her priorities are getting a fairer, greener deal for Tilehurst, getting cost-of-living help to those who need it, and action on road safety for all road users across Tilehurst.

Anne opposes NatWest’s proposed closure of their branch in Tilehurst, and started the Liberal Democrats’ petition to keep banking services in the west of Reading
