Berkshire Vision provides vital practical and friendly support, sport and activities to visually impaired children and adults, and their families in Berkshire.
They offer a busy sport and activities programme for their members and need volunteers to help.
As a volunteer, you can either focus on the sport or activity that interests you, or maybe you feel able to volunteer across several activities.
They are looking for volunteers to assist with: tandem cycling, football, golf, running, dragon boating, swimming, tennis and more.
This will be perfect if your New Year’s Resolution is to get more active.
The time commitment varies and is very flexible as they have sports and activities happening all the time. If you are looking for a regular time to volunteer Berkshire Vision also has a lunch club on Tuesdays and Fridays, or you can choose to volunteer at their other activities on a more ad hoc basis.
Assisting Berkshire Children to Read (ABC to Read) is an award-winning charity that supports children who are struggling to read by finding, training and supporting volunteers to work with them in primary schools around Berkshire.
They are looking for caring volunteers to become reading helpers, boosting students’ confidence and helping them directly in one-to-one sessions outside of the classroom environment to give students the opportunity to catch up.
They recruit, train and support community volunteers who ideally dedicate two sessions per week (although one session a week will also be considered), during term time only, for at least a year, reading, chatting and playing games.
If reading more was one of your resolutions this year you could link it up with also helping children read, helping them gain one the most essential skills for success in life. ABC to Read also have an employee volunteering scheme and welcome approaches from companies.
Are you a regular internet user who would like to help others to gain digital skills? Reading Voluntary Action are looking for Digital Champions to help get more people in Reading online.
More and more we rely on technology that some generations simply did not have access to growing up.
As part of the Digital Inclusion project, Reading Voluntary Action are looking for patient and supportive volunteers to help computer users who are unfamiliar with using the internet and email!
Learning a new skill might not be your New Year’s Resolution this year but you could directly help others achieve their goals this year.
The main project is based in Reading Central Library with additional sessions at other libraries and community venues around Reading.
