BOROUGH charities have an opportunity to be nominated to receive £5000, as Virgin Unite launches the fifth round of its £1,000,000 Local Legends Fund.
Last year, the company awarded £5,000 grants to 34 charities across the country.
Local winners last year were the 1st Wokingham Scout group, nominated by Ria Joyce, a Virgin employee and volunteer at the Wokingham charity.
Ria said, “We are a scouting group embedded in our community, providing a whole range of inclusive experiences, activities and friendships to young people aged 6-18.
“£5000 genuinely makes such a difference.
“It was important that our facilities are safe for all users and this money enabled us to ensure that was the case moving forwards.”
This year’s round of Virgin Unite’s Local Legends scheme gives more local charities an opportunity to be chosen.
To be eligible to receive a grant, groups must be nominated by a Virgin employee in the UK, who volunteers for them.
A representative from Virgin Unite said: “Virgin Unite is proud to stand alongside our people and the charities they support, helping local communities thrive, one legend at a time.
“We can’t wait to share the next chapter of Local Legends soon.”
